Wanted: Volunteers with Disabilities

As you know my daughter Helen, the inspiration for this site passed away in April, 2007. Although I initially thought I could promote and add content to Accessible Chicago without her, I find that is not the case. I feel the power of the website is that it was created for the disability community for the disability community, and since I am no longer in the special needs "world" it's pretty disengenuous to be telling those with physical impairments how to travel in Chicago.  Soo, without new users this website is no longer viable, and will be closing at the end of the year. Soo, I urge those with physical impairments to partner up with a writer and tell us where you go, and what your like and dislike on your trips in and around Chicago. I have partnered with Community Resource Network to help find volunteers.hopefully we can get some writers with physical disabilities to add to Accessible Chicago to keep it alive. Incidentally, CRN is also looking for volunteers with disabilities for their D.O.O.Rs program. Below is a description provided about the D.O.O.Rs program.  Disability Outreach Offering Resources through Service (D.O.O.R.S.). Through this program, we can offer persons with disabilities the opportunity to volunteer in asset training activities (tax preparation, financial education, teach asset building and savings classes) which will help them gain marketable skills as be more economically empowered. Volunteers will receive training to help them prepare for various positions.> prepare for the various volunteer positions. Jocelyn D.
